Charles Darwin University (CDU) is a public university in the Northern Territory of Australia. The school was named after the famous English naturalist. It was created in 2004 by merging the Centralian College of Alice Springs and the Northern Territory University of Darwin. The university now enrolls over 22,000 students. Charles Darwin University has campuses in Palmerston, Casuarina, Alice Springs, Katherine and Nhulunbuy. The university also has smaller training centers in Yulara, Jabiru and Tennant Creek.
CDU boasts a large range of courses. It is a dual-sector university, which means that students can choose between Higher Education courses and Vocational Education and Training (VET) programs. Approximately two-thirds of CDU students enroll in VET programs every year. The university’s main areas of study include health, science, education, law, business and arts.
One of the benefits of studying at Charles Darwin University is that study options are very flexible. Apart from studying on campus full-time, students can also take advantage of part-time, external and online options. The flexible schedules at CDU are beneficial to people who would like to study but have other commitments, or for those who would like to go through the material at their own pace.
Ranking and Honors
In 2009, SCImago Institution placed Charles Darwin University in the top five Australian universities that are active in research. The university makes over $30 million in research income. The Times Higher Education World University Rankings placed CDU on their list of Top Oceania Universities of 2011.
Charles Darwin University allows students to achieve their academic or vocational goals in a positive environment. The university is in a tropical setting which appeals to many students.
