Central Queensland University
CQU was established in 1992. Central Queensland University was originally Queensland Institute of Technology but has evolved and changed over time. As of 2008 Central Queensland University is known as CQUniversity. The main campus of CQU is in North Rockhamptom with campuses in Mackay, Emerald, Boundaberg, Gladston, Gold Coast, New South Wales, Victoria, Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne and Noosa. CQUniversity also has an international presence with operations in the Asia-Pacific. CQUniversity hosts 26,000 students on its many campuses.
The major areas of study offered at CQU are wide and expansive. Subjects include Education, Engineering and Technology, Information Technology, Business and Tourism, Creative and Performing Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, Primary Industries and Environments, and Built Environments and Design. A student considering an education at CQUniversity will not be disappointed in the availability of courses or the breadth of course offered at many varied subject levels.
Elected students from the network of campuses govern CQUniversity. The student association provides academic guidance and support as well as a range of services for both regional and international students. The student association also represents the postgraduate network of students and strives to best care for the needs of the community.
Central Queensland University is also successful in research and development. It is home to many successful and cutting edge research centers and institutes including the Centre for Health and Wellbeing, the Learning and Teaching Research Centre, the Business Research Group, the Centre for Longitudinal and Preventive Health Research, the Centre for Railway Engineering, the Centre for Plant and Water Science, and many more.
